So the DEMS won the day: Now what should their psychological approach to governing be?

So the DEMS won the day: Now what should their psychological approach to governing be?

The victory for the Democrats is overwhelming -- retaking the House AND the Senate. So what's next? What should be their PSYCHOLOGICAL approach be? Let's take a look....

[More:]

Nancy Pelosi, the new SPEAKER OF HOUSE [and first woman and first Italian-American to hold that post] said it best: "Partnership, not partisanship."

Sure, there could be viable investigations of the last six years, but to what purpose? While our country faces vital issues, the Congress would be tied up with hearings. NOPE...not a good idea.

Or the DEMS could choose a hard line -- do it my way or else -- but as my grandmother said: "You'll get more flies with honey than vinegar" and a do-it-my-way approach would certainly be vinegar.

So that leaves COOPERATION. Most Americans don't care about politics, they care about results. Now is the time for PROGRESS and if the DEMS are smart, joining and compromising with BUSH would be the best for the country and the American people.

THINK ABOUT IT: Negotiation and compromise...well, that's how relationships work. Think of your own relationship with your spouse or kids or best pals. You don't agree all the time, but you attempt to find common goals and values and then work on your differences. Well, THAT should be the PSYCHOLOGIAL APPROACH of the Dems now.

Polls indicate that most folks are neither red or blue politically. Those are artificial differences created to polarize. No, most of us are on the PURPLE LINE....we blend on most issues. Sure there's the ultra liberal and ultra conservative folks...but they are NOT the majority.

So CONSENSUS should be the psych watchword for the DEMS if they hope to succeed now and in the next election. After all, we are ONE COUNTRY.

Perhaps after all is said and done, maybe this election finally jettisoned the extremists from the White House and maybe, just maybe, GW BUSH will take on the role he promised so long ago -- to be a UNITER and not a DIVIDER.

Let's hope....

  • Ah, the weekend at last!

Thought I'd let all know, that usually I will not be blogging on the weekend. The weekend is a time to "recharge your batteries" and for too long in my life, I tended to work every day. Now I know better.

Taking the opportunity to relax is important to developing a healthy life. So with that...enjoy the weekend!

  • Bravo Rep. McKinney: Moments ago she apologized

Approximately noon today, April 6th, 2006, Rep. Cynthia McKinney stood and aplogized for the incident. Although hedging a bit -- "there should have been no physical contact" -- I'll give her that as a face-saving move. But the important part is that SHE APOLOGIZED. She was wrong and further, to play the race card was just plain goofy. So KUDOS to McKinney. No one likes to apologize, but sometimes that's the right thing to do -- and she did it!
