ELECTION TELEPHONE MESSAGES: They make me SCREAM!!
Okay, this is a rant... a plain and simple "this makes me crazy!" Political telephone messages....
In the old days, we all used to get solicitation phone calls until finally people rebelled and came up with a DO NOT CALL list. However, political messages were not included. The result: By this morning I had received over 50 of these messages at all hours of the day and night.
And to add insult to injury -- these are RECORDED messages, dialed by a computer! So it isn't some volunteer calling, but a computer ringing my home. Of course, I don't want to miss important phone calls. But thankfully, having caller ID only forces me to get up and look to see who's calling. So when I see FIREFIGHTERS, DEMOCRATIC HEADQUARTERS, REPUBLICAN HEADQUARTERS or whatever, I can just pick up and hang up or let the message service record the darn thing. Of course, politicos know that you don't want to pick up, so they are tricky and sometimes the caller ID just says "Out of Area". After a few of those -- well, they get ignored also. But then to force you to pick up they release a normal looking phone number...for the most part. When I say the caller ID list the phone number as "1234567" --- well, call me silly but I knew it wasn't any of my friends!
Now the question is: Do these messages work? For the most part, I don't think so. I don't think they help with voter turnout. And I don't think they change minds. What I do think they do is irritate you so much, you don't even WANT TO VOTE.
Well, come Tuesday, I will vote. It's important. And at last, NO MORE PHONE CALLS. Yes, that will be the best part.

- Ah, the weekend at last!
Thought I'd let all know, that usually I will not be blogging on the weekend. The weekend is a time to "recharge your batteries" and for too long in my life, I tended to work every day. Now I know better.
Taking the opportunity to relax is important to developing a healthy life. So with that...enjoy the weekend!

- Bravo Rep. McKinney: Moments ago she apologized
Approximately noon today, April 6th, 2006, Rep. Cynthia McKinney stood and aplogized for the incident. Although hedging a bit -- "there should have been no physical contact" -- I'll give her that as a face-saving move. But the important part is that SHE APOLOGIZED. She was wrong and further, to play the race card was just plain goofy. So KUDOS to McKinney. No one likes to apologize, but sometimes that's the right thing to do -- and she did it!
